Frequently Asked Questions

If you don’t see your question answered here, feel free to reach out to us. We’re here to support however we can.

  • We’re not able to bill most insurance providers directly at this time (with the exception of Kaiser Permanente).

With California’s AB 904 expanding potential coverage for doula services, many families may be eligible for reimbursement depending on their plan. We’re happy to provide a superbill and any supporting documentation you’ll need to submit a claim.

We’re actively working behind the scenes to make this process smoother and more accessible for families as coverage continues to evolve. In the meantime, we recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to ask what doula benefits are included in your plan.

  • A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We don’t replace your doctor or midwife, but instead work alongside your medical care providers to support you and your whole family—helping you feel cared for, confident, and empowered in your choices.

Support can include (but is tailored to your family’s needs): emotional support, hands-on comfort and guidance on birthing positions, advocacy, feeding support, newborn care, light household help, and referrals.

  • You can start anytime during pregnancy or after birth. Many families book later in their second or early third trimester to prepare for birth and postpartum support.

  • Absolutely! Whoever you choose to support you should be involved. It’s your birth! We support the whole family, coaching partners in comfort techniques, including them in care, and helping everyone feel confident and empowered.

  • Visits are typically 1–1.5 hours for postpartum and around 2 hours for prenatal. The number of visits depends on your family’s needs, goals, and schedule. Reach out directly to chat about your needs and we’ll be happy to make a recommendation that works for you.

  • Your needs may shift as your baby grows or as life at home changes—and that’s totally normal. We can adjust the focus, timing, and type of support for each visit, whether that’s more hands-on help with baby care, extra guidance on feeding, support with recovery, or simply space to rest and regroup.
